Reset silencer?

Can anyone point me towards some instructions on how to build a printer reset silencer? It basically just looks like a small dongle that prevents the annoying printer reset + linefeed every time you pull the ADAM's reset switch.

They are available for purchase from ANN for just $20 and I did inquire about buying one however with the COVID19 situation Rob said he's currently unable to ship one to me in Canada. So I figured I'd look around and see how complicated it'd be to build one of my own! I'm definitely not much of a hardware hacker but if its not too complicated maybe I can give it a shot.

If anyone has instructions or knows where I can find a guide that'd be great. I've been trawling through the archived issues of ADAM newsletters and magazines but haven't yet come across anything regarding this.

What I did was remove the printer top and install a small SPST slide switch. I believe without looking it up you cut the blue wire and connect it to the switch. This way you can turn the printer on and off. You do need to turn on the printer and reset your adam before trying to use it.

Thank you for the suggestion! I will definitely consider that as an option if I come up empty on the dongle concept... I'd just prefer to avoid modifying the printer if possible.

Take a power adapter and remove the Adamnet pin, easy to do all you need to know is which pin. If I get some extra time I will make one. The switch IMO is way better and really doesn't modify the printer that much.

Ok, that makes sense. I think you've put me on the right track. What I'm going to do is just put together a simple DB9 passthrough connector that will sit between the printer/power cable and my Adam. In the connector I will simply just not hook up the AdamNet pin. Looking through the Technical Reference Manual you are correct that it is the blue - which is pin 6.

I'll also be ordering an SPST switch just in case I decide to go the other route you suggested. Thanks for your help!

Make sure you use 18 guage wire at least - 20 guage or smaller causes issues with the power lines. YOu could also just open the adam and put your switch on the reset wire on the other side of the connector.

Done!

I disconnected the Reset wire instead of the AdamNet wire so I can actually still use the printer. Works perfectly! No more noisy linefeed when I pull the reset computer switch. 8-)
